Puerto Morelos, Quintana Roo — Mayor Blanca Merari Tziu Muñoz led the inauguration of a new National Guard housing complex in Puerto Morelos on Thursday, joined by Brigadier General Sergio López Acosta, the state coordinator of the National Guard in Quintana Roo.
During the ceremony, the mayor praised the work of National Guard members in safeguarding the security of Mexicans and said the new housing would contribute to the well-being and stability of their families.
“We are pleased that National Guard personnel receive this benefit that will strengthen their quality of life and that of their loved ones. Their work is fundamental to building a safer and more peaceful Mexico,” Merari said.
She also thanked the National Guard for its ongoing presence in Puerto Morelos, noting that the detachment complements coordinated patrols with the Public Security Department and the Mexican Navy, helping to ensure peace for residents and visitors of the youngest municipality in Quintana Roo.
The housing complex consists of 10 spacious homes and includes recreational areas, an electrical substation, a pumping station, a pump room, a cistern, a solid waste container, and an access portico.
Lieutenant Carlos Méndez Navarrete read an extraordinary order marking the inauguration, stating that the complex serves as a fundamental pillar for the well-being of personnel and their families by providing stability and property certainty that supports long-term life planning, community ties, and roots in the community.
“From an institutional perspective, family stability represents a strategic asset that allows personnel to fully focus on their operational responsibilities, strengthening their response capacity to the needs of the people of Quintana Roo,” he said.
Second Captain Víctor Manuel Escribano Martínez welcomed attendees and called the day a special one for the institution.
“This space represents much more than housing; it is recognition of the invaluable commitment our National Guards have to the security and well-being of our nation. Today their families have a dignified, safe, and comfortable home where they can build their lives,” he said.
Escribano also thanked the personnel who built the complex, highlighting their professionalism, technical dedication, attention to detail, and constant effort to develop a project with the highest quality standards.
“The men and women of the National Guard reaffirm our commitment to give our best effort to live up to the trust society has placed in us, as an institution guaranteeing public security aimed at achieving a Mexico of justice and peace,” he added.
After the ceremony, Mayor Merari and other officials toured the homes to inspect their features and functionality.
Also present at the event were National Guard Lieutenant Colonel Carlos David Salinas Rodríguez, Second Captain Valentín Badillo Parra, and Infantry Colonel Guillermo Robles Toscano Cote, commander of the 65th Infantry Battalion, representing the commander of the 34th Military Zone, along with other civil and military authorities.
