Mexico City — Mexican authorities have formally charged two men as part of an international child trafficking and sexual abuse network, following a coordinated operation with Australian law enforcement that included intelligence from a specialized Queensland police unit.

The Federal Prosecutor’s Office (FGR) announced that a 38-year-old man was arrested on April 7 in Yucatán state after a search warrant was executed at his home. Investigators from the Public Security Department (SSPC), the FGR’s Specialized Prosecutor’s Office for Organized Crime (FEMDO), and the Mexican Navy participated in the arrest.

According to authorities, the suspect allegedly used soccer training as a means to approach and groom minors, whom he then sexually abused and recorded. The videos and images were reportedly sold online. Investigators believe he exploited children for approximately a decade.

He has been formally charged with aggravated human trafficking for inducing minors under 18 to perform sexual acts or body exposure for the purpose of producing video material for financial gain.

The operation was supported by intelligence from the Queensland Police Service’s Argos unit, a specialized task force focused on online child exploitation and victim identification. Argos provided detailed information on two separate cases to Australian liaison officers based in Mexico.

Weeks earlier, in March 2026, a second man, 31, was arrested in Nayarit state in western Mexico on allegations of sexually abusing minors and sharing the abuse via instant messaging platforms and the dark web. Authorities seized cell phones, computers, hard drives, USB drives, clothing, and bedding from his residence.

He has been formally charged with sexual offenses against minors, and additional charges may follow, officials said.
