A man from the Luis Donaldo Colosio district is in critical condition after attempting suicide. The man, who is approximately 40 years old, was under investigation by the State Attorney General's Office (FGE) for the attempted murder of his ex-partner. He had reportedly set her on fire, which led to the investigation.
Upon hearing of the investigation, the man attempted to take his own life by stabbing himself in the stomach. He was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital. His current condition is unknown.
The attack on his ex-partner took place in the Centro district of Playa del Carmen. The man allegedly doused his ex-partner in gasoline before setting her on fire. She suffered second and third-degree burns on 45% of her body.
Due to the severity of her injuries, she was transported to a city hospital. Witnesses at the scene reported that the woman was unable to move and urgently needed help. They promptly called the 911 emergency service.
The victim later identified her attacker as her ex-partner. She claimed that they had been in conflict prior to the incident. The investigation into the attempted murder is ongoing.
