Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — The company that operates Playa del Carmen’s parking meters has not responded to official notices about malfunctioning machines and mounting complaints from residents, municipal Mobility Director Rafael Macías said.
A recent review found at least four machines out of service in different neighborhoods across the city.
Macías said his department notified the concessionaire of the deficiencies uncovered during an audit of its infrastructure. Officials also sent a second notice listing user reports about other machines that were not working, some of which had circulated on social media.
The director said the breakdowns keep shifting location: as soon as one machine is repaired, another stops working in a different area. Last week, officials learned of two more broken units.
As of the interview, the concessionaire had not answered the city’s requests to improve its infrastructure, despite the notices issued by municipal authorities.
Macías said that if the company continues to stay silent, officials will keep reviewing the terms of the concession contract to compel it to fix the deficiencies and provide better service to residents.
