Cancun, Quintana Roo — A judge has ordered a man to stand trial on charges of human trafficking in the form of child pornography, the Quintana Roo State Prosecutor’s Office announced.

Loreto Guadalupe “N” was formally charged during a court hearing after prosecutors presented sufficient evidence. The judge also imposed a two-year pretrial detention order, which will remain in effect for the duration of the judicial process.

Authorities arrested the suspect on June 27 in Merida, Yucatan, following a coordinated operation between Mexican law enforcement and U.S. agencies. Investigators allege that Guadalupe stored and reproduced audiovisual material depicting the sexual exploitation of dozens of minors under 18 years old.

Investigation Began in 2020

The case dates back to August 5, 2020, when the prosecutor’s office launched an investigation using field work and technological analysis. The arrest was the result of collaboration with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security Investigations attaché in Mexico and the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.

The trial will proceed as prosecutors continue to strengthen the evidence presented to the court.
