Cancun, Quintana Roo — Police arrested a man on the Puerto Morelos-Cancun highway Thursday after finding him with dozens of bags of marijuana and crystal meth.
Officers from the Public Security Department’s Investigation Directorate, working with the Mexican Navy, the Army, and the National Guard, detained Erick Javier N. in the municipality of Benito Juarez.
Authorities said they spotted the man next to a vehicle handling small plastic bags containing a green substance resembling marijuana. When he noticed the patrol, he tried to flee in the car, but officers stopped him on Federal Highway 307.
A search turned up 76 clear ziploc bags of marijuana, 19 bags of crystalline fragments consistent with crystal meth, a blue backpack, 300 pesos in cash, a tablet, and a cellphone. Police also seized the black Seat car with Quintana Roo plates.
The suspect and the evidence were handed over to the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office for Drug Dealing for legal proceedings.
