La Salle Cancun Students to Stage ‘Hercules, the Musical’

Students from La Salle Cancun rehearsing for Hercules the Musical

Cancun, Quintana Roo — Students from La Salle University’s middle and high school will bring the magic of Disney’s “Hercules” to the stage in an ambitious musical production set for July 4.

The project aims to give students in theater, dance, and film workshops professional experience, enhancing their expressive, verbal, emotional, and creative skills through a blend of urban dance, ballet, and contemporary dance.

For the young performers, the production has been a journey of self-discovery and a test of perseverance, as they balance schoolwork with daily rehearsals averaging three hours.

In an interview with Radio Formula, lead actors Bruno Reyes and Eric David Sanchez described the production as a significant commitment and a source of pride, marking their first time performing on a large-capacity stage in the city. They acknowledged the challenge of managing opening-night nerves to connect with the local audience.

The show demands high acting standards, with participants playing multiple roles from classical mythology. Eric David Sanchez takes on the title role of Hercules while also portraying Zeus. Bruno Reyes tackles the complexity of playing the story’s antagonists, bringing to life the main villain Hades as well as the monster Nessus, requiring deep character study to imprint his own personality.

The 120-minute spectacle is designed for family audiences and recommended for ages 6 and up. “Hercules, the Musical” will be performed exclusively on Saturday, July 4, at the Cancun Theater, with two shows scheduled at 3:30 p.m. and 6:00 p.m., serving as a platform to showcase and support the development of the community’s cultural talent.
