Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — The voter identification card issued by the National Electoral Institute (INE) continues to be the primary form of identification in Quintana Roo, despite the national rollout of the biometric CURP project. INE offices in the state report maintaining the same level of service as in previous years.
José Luis Olivares, the executive director of INE District 01 in the state, said citizens continue to visit offices for routine procedures at a normal pace. “As long as the biometric CURP is not 100% implemented as an official identification document, citizens are still being asked for their voter ID card,” he stated.
Olivares clarified that there has been no decrease in the electoral roll. On the contrary, it has grown by 5 to 8 percent, primarily due to the arrival of people attracted by the state’s job market. This figure remains within normal historical parameters. The INE reiterated that its offices continue to operate regularly for voter registration, updates, and card replacements.
