Cancun, Quintana Roo — Gunmen fired multiple shots at a rooming house in Cancun’s Supermanzana 69 neighborhood on Wednesday evening, causing alarm among residents but leaving no injuries, authorities said.
The attack occurred around 7 p.m. on Calle 24 at the corner of Calle 33 Norte, near the El Toro Valenzuela sports field. Witnesses reported hearing approximately three gunshots directed at a ground-floor room in a three-story building. Residents who came out after the shots saw damage to the building’s facade but no suspects.
Initial reports suggested a person had been injured, prompting a large deployment of municipal police officers. However, officers confirmed no one was hurt.
Police from the Municipal Secretariat of Public Security and Transit cordoned off the street, where several shell casings were found scattered on the asphalt in front of the building. Officers conducted patrols in the area to search for clues and checked for surveillance cameras that might have captured the shooter.
Some residents said the rooming house is used by people involved in drug use, and the attack may have been a warning message. A man inside the targeted room escaped unharmed but did not comment on what might have prompted the shooting.
The Supermanzana 69 area, particularly around the El Toro Valenzuela sports field, has seen recurring social problems linked to drug dealing.
