Tulum, Quintana Roo — The former director of Urban Development for the municipality of Tulum, Lorenzo Bernabé “N,” was arrested Wednesday afternoon by agents of the State Prosecutor’s Office (FGE) in the Alfredo V. Bonfil delegation, where he was allegedly hiding.

Officers located the former official inside a vehicle at the intersection of CNC and Josefa Ortiz de Domínguez streets and ordered him out to serve an arrest warrant issued by a control judge. He was taken to FGE offices on Ceiba Street in the same area for processing.

The FGE confirmed the arrest of Bernabé, 46, a merchant, on charges of domestic violence. The victim, who was in a romantic relationship with him, filed a complaint regarding an incident on March 26, when she was at her home in Tulum with her then-partner.

According to the complaint, after an argument, the suspect punched the left side of the victim’s face, causing her to lose consciousness for several minutes. When she regained consciousness, she used her cellphone to record the alleged perpetrator. In the video, which circulated on social media after the arrest, the victim showed bruises on her face. At that point, Bernabé allegedly snatched the phone and pushed her onto the bed.

The complaint states that the aggressor returned to the victim’s home on March 30 to insult and demean her, threatening to harm her if she dared to report him, claiming she depended on him financially.

Based on these allegations, the FGE obtained an arrest warrant and apprehended the suspect, who was handed over to a control judge in Playa del Carmen to face the domestic violence proceedings.
