Gunmen Open Fire on Home Used for Water Trucks in Cancun

Police officers and military personnel at the scene of a shooting on a home in Cancun's Supermanzana 75 neighborhood

Cancun, Quintana Roo — Residents of the Supermanzana 75 neighborhood were alarmed Thursday night after multiple gunshots were fired by individuals reportedly traveling in a taxi. The bullets struck the facade of a home used to store water tanker trucks.

The incident occurred on Calle 46 around 9 p.m., when emergency services received reports of gunfire. Municipal police and Mexican Army personnel responded to the scene.

Witnesses told authorities that at least two men arrived in a taxi, fired approximately six shots at the home, and then fled in an unknown direction.

Officers confirmed the property is used to store potable water tankers. Spent shell casings were found at the scene, prompting a cordon and a request for the State Prosecutor’s Office to investigate.

Ministerial police and forensic experts collected evidence and opened an investigation. Authorities suspect the attack may be linked to extortion, commonly known as “derecho de piso” (protection racket).
