Playa del Carmen, Mexico — A fire at the La Vaca Gaucha restaurant on Fifth Avenue triggered a major emergency services response on Monday night, though officials reported only material damage and no injuries.
The incident occurred around 7:30 p.m. after a duct in the restaurant’s grill ignited. The establishment is located near 24th Street.
Staff evacuated the premises before firefighters arrived to extinguish the flames. Paramedics also responded but did not treat any injured persons.
An initial report suggests the duct fire may have been caused by a buildup of grease and grime.
Firefighters contained the blaze within minutes, while municipal police officers secured the area. The extent of the fire damage remains unclear, but the flames reportedly did not reach the restaurant’s dining area.
Civil protection personnel will conduct an investigation to determine the exact cause of the fire.
