Dump Truck Engulfed in Flames on Tulum-Cobá Highway
Tulum, Quintana Roo — A dump truck burst into flames late Wednesday night on the Tulum-Cobá state highway at kilometer 42, prompting a large emergency response and forcing drivers to slow down due to thick smoke that reduced visibility.
According to witnesses, the fire started suddenly in the rear of the truck while it was moving. Within minutes, the flames intensified and spread to roadside vegetation, creating a column of smoke visible from a distance.
The driver managed to escape unharmed, and no injuries were reported. The fire caused only material damage to the vehicle and scorched nearby brush.
Civil protection personnel and firefighters arrived at the scene to extinguish the flames. The truck, a two-axle dump vehicle used to transport stone or construction materials, was completely destroyed.
Traffic was restricted to one lane while crews worked to control the fire. Authorities will conduct an investigation to determine the cause, which may include mechanical failure or an electrical short circuit.
