Cancún, Quintana Roo — Authorities are investigating the death of a girl found with signs of violence inside a home in the Región 225 neighborhood of Cancún.
Police officers and investigators were dispatched to the scene after the discovery, cordoning off the area while personnel from the State Prosecutor’s Office gathered evidence. According to preliminary reports, people may have entered the home and taken family belongings before officers arrived.
Investigators are looking into whether the apparent theft is connected to the girl’s death. One line of inquiry suggests those responsible may have attempted to alter the scene to make it appear the death occurred differently. The hypothesis has not yet been confirmed or ruled out by forensic examination.
An autopsy will determine the cause of death and provide more details about the circumstances. Some local reports indicated the girl may have been abused, but officials have not confirmed that information.
The investigation is ongoing as authorities work to establish what happened and determine who is responsible.
