Cancún, Quintana Roo — Authorities have arrested a suspect in the femicide of a 15-year-old girl whose body was found inside her home in the Supermanzana 225 neighborhood, the State Prosecutor’s Office said.
Investigators determined that a single attacker committed the crime. The suspect, described as a former neighbor who had recently lived near the victim’s home, entered the residence while the girl was alone, stole items, sexually assaulted her and then killed her, apparently by strangulation, according to the investigation.
The Specialized Prosecutor’s Office for Femicide Investigation handled the case and tracked down the suspect after learning he had pawned several items taken from the home. Investigative police recovered the stolen property and are gathering evidence to seek criminal charges against the detainee.
The girl’s mother discovered her daughter dead when she returned home around 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, prompting a large-scale police response.
