Cancun Residents Tie Man to Pole After Alleged Domestic Violence

A man tied to a stop sign pole in Cancun after being accused of assaulting his partner

Cancun, Quintana Roo — Residents of the Los Corales neighborhood in Cancun detained and tied a man to a pole after accusing him of physically assaulting his partner, authorities said.

Witnesses said a group of neighbors saw the man attacking a woman in the street. They subdued him, struck him, and tied him with ropes to a stop sign pole in front of a Six convenience store.

After securing the suspect, residents called emergency services. Police officers and personnel from the Specialized Group for Attention to Family and Gender Violence (GEAVIG) responded to the scene.

When police arrived, the suspect began to cry and denied the allegations. A female neighbor identified him as the aggressor and also accused him of throwing stones at her home, causing damage.

According to the witness, the victim had already filed a formal complaint with the State Prosecutor’s Office (FGE) for domestic violence. The neighbor whose home was damaged said she would also file a complaint with the Public Ministry.
