Chetumal, Quintana Roo — The renovation of Chetumal’s downtown, known as the Barrio Mágico project, is expected to be completed within 10 months and will be carried out in a single phase, with an investment of nearly 130 million pesos.
Rafael Lara Díaz, Quintana Roo’s secretary of public works, said the company overseeing the work is committed to delivering the entire project within that timeframe, so no later phases are planned.
The work includes renovating the Ávila Camacho theater on Calle 22 de Enero, as well as building facades and pedestrian walkways. It also involves adding recreational areas and educational playground equipment aimed mainly at children and young people.
Lara Díaz said the project also includes new attractions for the capital’s downtown, though details will be presented later by Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa.
The intervention is part of broader efforts to renew Chetumal’s center and improve connections between different points of the area and the boulevard, creating new spaces for recreation and community gathering.
