Cancun, Quintana Roo — Residents and motorists in the Los Corales neighborhood subdued and beat a suspected robber early Tuesday after he and an accomplice allegedly attacked a pedestrian.
The incident occurred around 5:30 a.m. in front of the Universidad del Caribe in Supermanzana 77. The victim was walking to work when two men on a green-and-black motorcycle intercepted him, according to reports.
The suspects attempted to steal the victim’s belongings and began hitting him during the robbery. Witnesses said neighbors and passing drivers saw the attack and intervened.
One suspect fled on foot, while the other tried to escape on the motorcycle but was caught by the crowd. The man was held and beaten until he lay on the street next to the motorcycle.
Municipal police officers arrived after receiving a report and found the injured suspect on the asphalt. The victim had already left the scene.
Officers arrested the alleged assailant and called a tow truck to impound the motorcycle. They notified the State Prosecutor’s Office to begin an investigation.
Witnesses said the victim went to a hospital on his own for treatment, but authorities had not located him to file a formal complaint as of Tuesday morning.
