Cancun, Quintana Roo — The long-awaited Nichupté Vehicular Bridge will open earlier than expected, with Governor Mara Lezama confirming the inauguration will take place Saturday, May 2, and will be attended by President Claudia Sheinbaum.
The bridge, one of Cancun’s most emblematic infrastructure projects, is considered historic for the city’s mobility. It connects the hotel zone with the urban center, significantly reducing travel times.
Originally scheduled to open Sunday, May 3, the date was moved forward to allow President Sheinbaum to personally lead the inaugural ceremony alongside federal and state authorities.
The project has been one of the most significant infrastructure developments in Quintana Roo in recent years, not only for its size and complexity but also for its impact on the daily commute of thousands of workers, tourists, and residents.
With the opening of the Nichupté Bridge, Cancun aims to address one of its main urban challenges: constant traffic congestion to the hotel zone, especially during holiday seasons and peak tourist hours.
