Cancun, Quintana Roo — The Benito Juárez municipal government is carrying out maintenance and improvement work at the Playa del Niño parking lot in response to resident complaints, while reaffirming that the beach will remain free and public.

Municipal Secretary Pablo Gutiérrez Fernández said the measures stem from requests made by Puerto Juárez residents during a town hall meeting with the mayor. Neighbors had raised concerns about improper overnight use of the parking lot, including alcohol consumption, loud music, and disturbances.

“We are bringing order to a public space for everyone’s benefit. Access to Playa del Niño will continue to be completely free, and parking will remain free for visitors. Nothing is being privatized,” Gutiérrez said.

The work includes installing posts and chains to regulate parking outside designated hours, as well as new signage informing visitors of operating hours and safety rules.

In addition, the municipality runs a daily maintenance program at the beach, including sargassum cleanup, manual waste collection, trash removal, and upkeep of restrooms and containers. Lifeguards and ZOFEMAT staff are on site from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Preventive and corrective maintenance on beach infrastructure is also carried out regularly to ensure a safe and clean environment for residents and tourists.
