Cancun, Quintana Roo — Cancun Mayor Ana Patricia Peralta de la Peña will formally request a temporary leave of absence from her post on Thursday at 9:30 a.m. during an extraordinary city council session, officials said.

Peralta is stepping aside to register in Morena’s internal selection process for the party’s candidacy to become coordinator of the Defense of Transformation and National Sovereignty in Quintana Roo.

Her decision follows similar moves by other Morena aspirants who have already registered:

  • Eugenio Segura Vázquez requested leave from his position as a federal senator.
  • Marybel Villegas Canché requested leave from her role as a federal deputy.
  • Rafael Marín Mollinedo resigned as head of the Welfare Department delegation in Yucatán.

Peralta had previously expressed uncertainty about whether she would register for the internal contest.
