Cancún to Host U-15 Baseball World Cup Games

Cancún, Quintana Roo — Cancún has been selected as a second host city for the upcoming U-15 Baseball World Cup, joining Mérida, Yucatán, as the main venue. The tournament is scheduled to run from September 25 through October 4 or 5.

Fernando Valenzuela Burgos, president of the Tigres de Quintana Roo, announced that the Sherwin Williams Beto Ávila Stadium will host a full group stage. Admission will be free.

“The good news is that the U-15 [World Cup], which will be in Mérida, Cancún will also be a host,” Valenzuela said. “Mérida has the host designation, but with so many teams they need another stadium, and Cancún will be one. So it’s a great opportunity for people to come and enjoy baseball, and there will be no charge to enter the stadium.”

The tournament will bring together baseball powerhouses such as Cuba and Nicaragua, along with Mexico and European teams like Czech Republic. Organizers expect the free access to encourage family and school attendance, allowing young local players to watch peers who are already competing at an international level.

Valenzuela said the goal is to make the World Cup a source of inspiration for children and young players who dream of going professional. He added that the main focus will be promoting the sport through clinics and activities with local schools.

Final logistics are still being defined, including schedules and which teams will be based in Cancún versus Mérida. The organization is coordinating with state and municipal authorities to maximize the event’s impact, attract as many families as possible, and turn the tournament into a citywide celebration.
