Cancún Launches Mural Contest for Young Artists in Villas Otoch Paraíso

Young artists painting a community mural in Villas Otoch Paraíso, Cancún

Cancún, Quintana Roo — The Benito Juárez municipality, through its Urban Development Planning Institute (IMPLAN), has launched a call for young artists aged 15 to 22 living in the Villas Otoch Paraíso neighborhood to participate in creating a large-format community mural.

The initiative, titled “Learn, Create and Leave Your Mark in Your Community,” aims to promote youth talent, reclaim public spaces, and strengthen community identity. It is part of the broader urban transformation program under the slogan “Cancún unites us for transformation.”

The mural will be painted at the “Cruce Seguro” public space, located at the intersection of Orquídeas and Lakín avenues, a high-traffic area in Villas Otoch Paraíso.

Selected participants will receive specialized training from local and national artists and will collaborate on the design and execution of the urban artwork. The program emphasizes collaborative work, civic participation, and a sense of belonging.

Only eight participants will be selected due to the hands-on nature of the workshop. Applicants must submit three original illustrations (two hand-drawn and one in a free technique), full name, age, contact information, proof of residence in Villas Otoch Paraíso, a letter of motivation (max 150 words), and, for minors, a signed authorization from a parent or guardian.

Applications close on Saturday, May 30, 2026, at 5:00 p.m. Results will be announced on Wednesday, June 3, 2026. Submissions can be sent digitally to contacto@implancancun.gob.mx or delivered in person to IMPLAN Cancún offices at Avenida Uxmal, Supermanzana 5, Cancún.

Officials said the project uses urban art as a tool for social transformation and community building, giving young people a chance to express their ideas and improve their neighborhood.
