Cancún's beach concessions have generated 81 million pesos in just three months, according to a report from the Federal Maritime Land Zone Directorate (Zofemat) of Benito Juárez. The director of Zofemat, Justo Román Miranda Rocha, stated that this amount represents roughly 45 to 47 percent of the annual revenue target of 173 million pesos, all collected in the first quarter.
Zofemat currently has a registry of approximately 650 taxpayers from the concessions. The director expressed confidence in surpassing their annual goal, a target set by various authorities including the Tax Administration Service (SAT), Semarnat, the state government, and the municipality.
The revenue collection typically commences between January and March, which is when the largest contributions from taxpayers are usually received. These taxpayers are charged for the use, enjoyment, and benefit of maritime and land space concessions in the federal zone. In Cancún, some concessionaires also have access to lagoon space.
Zofemat ensures timely payment of these benefits. If there is a delay, Zofemat demands payment and initiates regularizations. To date, no sanctions have been imposed for late payments.
In related news, Cancún's beaches are currently seeing an influx of visitors due to the summer vacation season. The director reported that to date, there have been 636,464 visitors to the seven public beaches under municipal government control.
The Municipal Tourism Secretariat reports that hotel occupancy in Cancún is currently estimated at around 79%, with projections suggesting it could reach up to 82% across 45,500 hotel rooms.
Lastly, Zofemat data shows that in 2023, the revenue from federal zone concessionaires was approximately 189 million pesos, collected from 435 concessionaires.
