Calderitas to Host Navy Day Celebrations on June 1

Officials planning Navy Day events in Calderitas, Quintana Roo

Calderitas, Quintana Roo — The community of Calderitas will host a series of official and recreational events on June 1 to commemorate Navy Day, the Chetumal Harbor Captain’s Office announced.

Navy Day honors sailors, fishermen, maritime industry workers, and members of the Mexican Navy (SEMAR). The Harbor Captain’s Office, in coordination with the Navy’s 11th Naval Zone based in Chetumal, state and municipal authorities, the Calderitas town council, tourism service providers, and local restaurateurs, is organizing the festivities to promote nautical culture and position Calderitas as a nautical, historical, and cultural tourist destination.

Román Bustos Gómez, Chetumal harbor captain, said maritime and naval authorities are committed to serving the public and are confident the celebrations will be a success thanks to the strong cooperation among all three levels of government.

Vice Admiral Marco Antonio Muñoz Hernández, commander of the 11th Naval Zone, and his team are enthusiastic about holding the June 1 events in Calderitas, Bustos added.

“We invite the public to attend all the activities, which will include a nautical tour. The Municipal Tourism Department will soon release a detailed schedule,” he said.

Sergio Tomás Uh Tejero, mayor of Calderitas in the municipality of Othón P. Blanco, thanked the Harbor Captain’s Office and the 11th Naval Zone for choosing Calderitas as the venue for Navy Day celebrations.
