Cabaret Show Brings 1920s Glamour to Cancún’s Teatro de la Ciudad

Cancún, Quintana Roo — For one night, the cabaret is stepping off the hotel stage and onto a public theater stage in Cancún.

Motion OE will present “Cabaret,” a show built around music, dance, sensuality and large-scale production numbers, at the Teatro de la Ciudad on Sept. 18 at 8 p.m.

The production, previously staged mainly in hotel and tourist entertainment venues, is designed as a closer theatrical experience for a local audience.

A 1920s-Inspired Production

Directed by Alejandra Loría and Diego Márquez, the show takes its cue from the aesthetic of 1920s cabaret. From that starting point, it pairs a musical selection drawn from Broadway classics, film and pop.

The repertoire includes numbers from Cabaret, La Cage aux Folles, Moulin Rouge!, Sweet Charity and The Greatest Showman, along with songs performed by artists such as Christina Aguilera, Dua Lipa, Ariana Grande, Jessie J and Annie Lennox.

Organizers said the mix aims to preserve the spirit of big cabaret productions while adapting the staging to a theater format.

From Hotel Stage to Theater

A key change for this run is the move from hotel venues to the Teatro de la Ciudad. The production was designed to make use of the possibilities of a theater stage while bringing local audiences an entertainment format that forms part of Cancún’s performance identity.

The show links the city’s nightlife to a space dedicated to the performing arts, offering local audiences a different kind of experience.

A Cast Blending Music, Dance and Sensuality

The production features Mónica Sosa, Citlali Barona, Mitchelle Tamariz, Yocelin Arumir, Danna Castillo, Daniela Flores, Beto Calderón, José Luis Escobar, Edgar Flores, Lucio Dzul, Tamy Gómez, Rodrigo Llamas, Emily Góngora, Juan José García and Elvira Barbachano.

Stage coordination is handled by Mónica Sosa and Alejandra Loría. Choreography is by Alejandra Loría, Mónica Sosa, Óscar Velázquez and Adrián Carrasco, with conceptual development by Citlali Barona.

Combining glamour, music, dance and sensuality, “Cabaret” offers a different side of Cancún’s nightlife entertainment, trading the hotel setting for the Teatro de la Ciudad curtain.
