Mexico City — Sergio “Checo” Pérez is closing in on one of the biggest milestones of his career: his 300th Formula 1 Grand Prix, which he is set to contest at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez in front of Mexican fans on Sunday, November 1, 2026.

The Guadalajara-born driver has 298 registered starts in the sport and can reach the historic figure if he races at the United States Grand Prix in Austin and then takes the grid for the Mexico City race.

If he does, Pérez will join the small group of drivers who have made 300 F1 starts, alongside Lewis Hamilton, Michael Schumacher, Fernando Alonso, Sebastian Vettel, Jenson Button, Kimi Räikkönen and Rubens Barrichello.

A return to the grid with Cadillac

In 2026 the Mexican returned to Formula 1 as a full-time Cadillac driver, partnered with Finland’s Valtteri Bottas. After several months away from the grid, Pérez said coming back to racing was the right decision and spoke of his enthusiasm at reconnecting with Mexican fans.

He said celebrating his 300th race in his home country would be a special opportunity, coming after a career marked by wins, podiums and spells with international teams.

Pérez’s Formula 1 legacy

Since his debut with Sauber in 2011, Pérez has driven for McLaren, Force India, Racing Point and Red Bull Racing. Over that run he has taken six victories, three pole positions and 39 podiums, along with the 2023 world championship runner-up finish that stands as his best result in the drivers’ standings.

His wins include Sakhir in 2020, Azerbaijan in 2021 and 2023, Monaco and Singapore in 2022, and Saudi Arabia in 2023.

At the Mexican Grand Prix, Pérez finished on the podium in 2021 and 2022, taking third place both times with Red Bull Racing.

The 300-start mark would add another historic chapter for Mexican motorsport, with Pérez established as one of the country’s leading international sporting figures.
