Cancun, Quintana Roo — A bus driver’s quick thinking prevented a potential tragedy on federal Highway 307 after the vehicle’s brakes reportedly failed while traveling south from Cancun toward Playa del Carmen.
Witnesses said the driver of the Del Valle bus performed emergency maneuvers to reduce speed and maintain control, using the shoulder and roadside to avoid colliding with other vehicles.
The incident caused alarm among motorists, who immediately called 911, prompting a response from emergency services and traffic authorities.
Despite the severity of the situation, preliminary reports indicate no injuries, only material damage from the driver’s evasive actions.
Traffic officers and emergency crews arrived at the scene to inspect the bus and investigate the cause, which is believed to be a mechanical failure in the braking system.
Federal highway authorities took custody of the bus while investigations continue to determine the exact cause and assign responsibility.
