Chetumal, Quintana Roo — Shoppers and vendors at a commercial plaza in Chetumal are on edge after a large bee swarm was discovered near the Súper Akí supermarket, raising fears of possible attacks in the busy area.
Residents reported the insects at the plaza, a popular spot where many families shop daily. So far, the bees have remained calm and no stings have been reported, but locals worry that noise from traffic or pedestrian activity could agitate the hive and trigger an attack.
The swarm poses a particular risk to children, elderly people, and those with allergies, who could suffer severe health complications if stung. Witnesses urged authorities to act quickly before someone tries to remove the swarm on their own, potentially causing panic and injuries.
Community members have begun spreading the word, advising people to avoid the area where the bees have settled. They are also pleading with the public not to attempt to dislodge the swarm with sticks or water, warning that such desperate measures often lead to accidents that could be prevented with patience.
