Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — An animal trainer at the Xcaret eco-archaeological park has filed a sexual harassment complaint against a co-worker, alleging her employer and the park failed to address the situation.
Paulina Chávez, who works training animals for the park’s night show, accused Abraham Ulises G., known as Abraham Gonzalez, a member of the pre-Hispanic dance group Xipe Totek. She said the harassment escalated over several months and culminated in an incident where Gonzalez refused to leave her car after she gave him a ride.
“I never gave him reason to think there was any interest on my part. On the contrary, I repeatedly asked him to stop bothering me,” Chávez said in a statement posted on social media. She said she filed complaints with human resources at Xcaret and with the State Prosecutor’s Office in Playa del Carmen.
Chávez claims she suffered workplace repercussions for reporting the harassment while Gonzalez continues to work with support from his dance group. She said other women, including dancers and park employees, have also come forward with similar allegations against the same man.
“There is a legal process and the prosecutor’s office has evidence related to the events, including proof and witness testimony,” Chávez said. She urged the park and the dance collective to take the matter seriously. “No one should have to live in fear at their workplace. Harassment should not be normalized or minimized.”
The State Prosecutor’s Office confirmed an investigation file has been opened. Xcaret has not issued a public statement on the case.
