Chetumal, Quintana Roo — Authorities rescued 36 women from a bar in Othón P. Blanco, Quintana Roo, during a raid targeting human trafficking operations.

The State Prosecutor’s Office and the National Guard led the operation following an investigation into illicit activities at a bar located at the intersection of Camelias Street and Juárez Avenue in the David Gustavo Gutiérrez neighborhood.

Officials found 36 adult women at the establishment, 35 of whom are Mexican and one Honduran national. Authorities allege the women were forced to provide sexual services at the bar.

Initial investigations indicate the women were recruited under vulnerable economic conditions to work as waitresses or “ficheras” (hostesses), but were later pressured into sexual services, surrendering up to 50% of their earnings to the bar’s management.

Police arrested a man identified as the bar’s manager during the operation. Authorities turned him over to the prosecutor’s office for his alleged involvement in human trafficking.

Forensic experts seized electronic payment terminals, cash, video recording devices, condoms, and notebooks containing service records as evidence.

The building remains secured by the State Prosecutor’s Office as investigations continue to determine if additional individuals participated in the alleged crimes.
