Ambulance Crashes Into Home After Collision in Chetumal; 3 Injured

Chetumal, Quintana Roo — An ambulance collided with a car and crashed into a house in Chetumal on Sunday, leaving three people injured.

The accident occurred shortly after noon in the Adolfo López Mateos neighborhood at the intersection of Francisco J. Múgica and CNC avenues, according to reports filed with the 911 emergency line.

Neighbors said the ambulance and a private vehicle were involved in the crash. The ambulance was not carrying a patient; paramedics were responding to an emergency call and had their sirens on, witnesses said.

The collision sent the ambulance into a home, partially destroying the structure. Three people were injured, but the extent of their injuries and the value of the property damage were not immediately disclosed.

Initial reports did not indicate which driver was at fault. Unconfirmed versions suggested the ambulance driver may have failed to stop at the intersection because of the emergency, and was hit by a white Dodge Attitude with Quintana Roo plates traveling on the road with the right of way.

Traffic police conducted an accident investigation to determine responsibility. Firefighters assisted with the response and secured the area while emergency crews transported the injured and cleared the vehicles.

The crash highlighted ongoing infrastructure concerns in Chetumal, where at least five intersections and several crosswalks lack traffic lights and require better signaling, though no funding is currently available for improvements.
