Couple Arrested for Alleged Sexual Abuse of 4-Year-Old Son in Cancún

Police and legal authorities in Cancún investigating a child abuse case

Cancún, Quintana Roo — Authorities have arrested a couple accused of sexually abusing their 4-year-old son, after the child reported the alleged incidents to his teacher at a school in Cancún.

State Prosecutor Raciel López Salazar announced the arrests during a press conference on Monday, April 20.

According to investigators, the 4-year-old boy told his teacher at a school in the Álamos II neighborhood that his parents “did things to him that he didn’t like.” The teacher promptly reported the case to authorities, citing a probable sexual assault against a minor.

Following the report, the Quintana Roo State Prosecutor’s Office issued arrest warrants for Gabriel Edgardo, 35, originally from Mexico City, and Amairani Mercedes, from Yucatán, both identified as the child’s parents.

The boy has been placed in temporary protective care, while his parents have been handed over to a judge who will determine their legal status.
