Isla Mujeres, Quintana Roo — The municipal government, led by Mayor Atenea Gómez Ricalde, has unveiled the lineup for the 176th anniversary of the founding of Isla Mujeres, inviting locals and visitors to join the festivities.
The celebration will open with the traditional Bajada de la Virgen and Vaquería on August 5, followed by the 5th annual Ceviche Contest “El Cangrejito Playero 2026” on August 7 at the Municipal Plaza.
On August 8, a lucha libre wrestling event, “Furia en el Caribe,” will take place at 5 p.m. at the “José del Carmen Pastrana” basketball court. The 5th Isleño Cocktail Contest is scheduled for August 13 at the Municipal Plaza.
Other highlights include Las Mañanitas to the Virgin, traditional dances and a performance by Nelson Kanzela on August 14; a craft fair and a show by La Casetera on August 15; the traditional Nochecitas Isleñas on August 16; and a solemn session on August 17.
