Tulum, Quintana Roo — Armed men opened fire on the facade of the Hotel Backup La Veleta in Tulum, triggering a large deployment of police and emergency crews after residents reported multiple gunshots to the 911 emergency line.

The hotel stands on Calle 12 Sur, between Calle 10 Sur and Cobá, in the La Veleta neighborhood, one of the fastest-growing tourist areas of the coastal resort town.

Municipal Preventive Police, State Police and Grupo Jaguar officers rushed to the property to assess the situation. Paramedics from the private ambulance company RUM also responded because the first reports indicated a possible injured person.

After inspecting the site, emergency crews confirmed that no one had been hurt and that no hospital transfers were needed.

According to preliminary information, the shots were aimed at the front of the building, though authorities have not determined exactly how many rounds were fired. Officers cordoned off the perimeter with security tape to preserve ballistic evidence, and the arrival of patrol cars and rescue units drew the attention of neighbors and passersby in the area.

Authorities have not reported any arrests and have not said whether the hotel was specifically targeted or whether investigators are pursuing other lines of inquiry.

Agents from the State Prosecutor’s Office investigative police and forensic services were expected at the scene to process the site, search for spent shell casings and document damage to the property.
