Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — A man and a woman were critically injured Monday evening when their motorcycle collided with a parked car and then a taxi in the Misión de las Flores neighborhood.

The crash occurred shortly after 6 p.m. at the intersection of Avenida Ave del Paraíso and Flor Maya. Witnesses told authorities the motorcyclist was driving the wrong way at high speed when he first struck a parked vehicle, then slammed into the right side of a taxi with unit number 1201.

The female passenger was thrown from the bike and landed against the taxi. The male rider was ejected more than 5 meters (16 feet). Paramedics from two ambulances treated the victims at the scene and transported them to the General Hospital in critical condition.

Public Security and Municipal Transit officers arrived to investigate, document the scene, and arrange for the vehicles to be towed to an impound lot.
