Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — Judges in Quintana Roo have ordered two men to stand trial for alleged sexual abuse in separate incidents occurring in Playa del Carmen and Tulum. The rulings followed hearings where prosecutors presented evidence gathered by the State Attorney General’s Office through its Specialized Unit for Combating Sexual Crimes and Crimes Against Personal Development.
Case in Playa del Carmen: Familial Abuse Allegations
In the first case, Óscar Miguel Abinadi "N" was formally charged for an incident that took place on August 4 of this year. According to investigative reports, the accused allegedly sexually abused a minor at her residence on Uru Street in the Villas Rivera neighborhood of Playa del Carmen.
The victim, who suffers from a heart condition, was reportedly alone with Abinadi when she began feeling dizzy. He assisted her to her bedroom, where he allegedly touched her inappropriately. The minor managed to escape and sought help from a neighbor, who then alerted the victim’s mother.
When Abinadi attempted to force the girl to return home, a police patrol passed by, prompting the neighbor to request intervention. Officers detained him at the scene.
The judge ruled that sufficient evidence existed to proceed with a trial and imposed preventive detention for two years or until the judicial process concludes.
Case in Tulum: Assault on a Motorcyclist
In a separate hearing, Arturo "N" was charged for an alleged sexual assault on August 6 in Tulum. The incident occurred on Tulum Avenue between Libra Sur and Escorpión Sur in the town center.
Authorities stated that the victim was riding a motorcycle when the accused pulled up beside her in a truck and allegedly reached out the window to inappropriately touch her. The woman immediately sought help from nearby police officers, who arrested Arturo "N."
After reviewing the evidence, the judge also ordered him to stand trial.
Both cases remain under judicial review as proceedings continue.
