Tulum Councilor Apologizes for Private Jet Video, Accepts Possible Morena Sanctions

Tulum councilor Eliazar Mas Kinil speaking during an interview about the private jet video controversy

Tulum, Quintana Roo — Eliazar Mas Kinil, the third councilor of Tulum’s city council, issued a public apology after a video surfaced showing him boarding a private jet, sparking criticism for contradicting the austerity principles promoted by the ruling Morena party.

In an interview, Mas Kinil acknowledged that posting the video was imprudent and admitted it may have upset some residents. He said he is prepared to face consequences from both public opinion and internal party procedures.

“I want to reiterate and apologize to the citizens of Tulum. It was imprudent of me, and I publicly recognize that,” the councilor said. He noted that Morena leaders have already contacted him to discuss the matter.

Regarding speculation about a possible expulsion from the party, Mas Kinil said he will respect any decision made by Morena’s internal bodies. He acknowledged the situation could lead to sanctions but reiterated he will comply with any rulings.

The councilor maintained that the trips were not funded with public money and that expenses came from personal funds used for family and private activities. He also expressed willingness to cooperate with any investigation to clarify the source of the funds and prove that municipal finances were not affected.
