Tulum City Hall Responds to Complaints, Offers Support to Local Businesses

Tulum city officials meeting with local merchants to discuss economic concerns

Tulum, Quintana Roo — The Tulum City Hall has intensified its outreach to local businesses in response to a wave of complaints about the municipality’s economic situation. The initiative aims to address issues related to permits, licenses, and other administrative hurdles affecting business operations.

General Secretary Johnny Monsreal said the directive is to maintain a government close to citizens and work hand-in-hand with those who generate employment in the municipality. He explained that following reports of low economic activity, unfair competition, and administrative difficulties, a personalized attention program was launched, starting with 22 businesses. Under this scheme, authorities conduct individual assessments to identify specific needs and channel them to the appropriate departments, seeking solutions within the legal and administrative framework.

Meanwhile, Sergio Cantó, director of the Inspection Department, reported that meetings with merchants have resolved various issues related to fines, permit regularization, and pending procedures. He highlighted coordination between departments such as Inspection, Urban Development, and other municipal agencies to streamline procedures and provide faster responses to citizens.

During the meetings, merchants and citizens raised concerns about urban image, security, and various administrative processes. According to authorities, these interactions have established more effective communication channels and advanced the resolution of matters that had gone unattended for years.

Cantó invited merchants and citizens to approach the city hall for guidance and to resolve any irregularities. He added that the city is working to standardize criteria for fees related to waste collection, land use, and operating licenses, aiming to ensure fairer and more transparent rates, while also strengthening oversight of intermediaries involved in these processes.
