Tulum, Quintana Roo — The Tulum city government has awarded 1,000 educational scholarships covering the months of April, May, and June of the 2025-2026 school year, aiming to keep children and young people in school.
The scholarships were distributed in the community of Chanchén Primero, benefiting students from elementary, middle, high school, and higher education, as well as students with disabilities.
Mayor Diego Castañón Trejo led the event and emphasized that the program is designed to reduce school dropout rates and support family economies. The breakdown includes 440 scholarships for elementary students, 430 for middle school students and students with disabilities, 80 for high school students, and 50 for university students.
In addition to the financial aid, municipal authorities recognized students from elementary to university level who achieved the highest academic averages, as an incentive for their performance.
Nilvia Lizama, director general of Education, explained that the program is primarily aimed at students from families with the greatest economic needs, to facilitate the continuity of their studies and strengthen access to education.
Municipal officials stated that this scholarship scheme is part of broader efforts to promote educational development in the municipality and provide better conditions for students to remain in the school system throughout the academic year.
