Taxi Driver Who Went Viral in Chetumal Brawl Disappears, Authorities Launch Search

Chetumal, Quintana Roo — The Quintana Roo State Prosecutor’s Office has issued an urgent search alert for Víctor Daniel May Castillo, a 42-year-old taxi driver who disappeared on May 20, 2026. May Castillo gained notoriety months earlier after a video of him involved in a violent street brawl went viral.

According to the alert (number 42/FDS/2026), May Castillo was last seen in Chetumal on Wednesday, May 20. He was wearing a white long-sleeved shirt, blue jeans, and blue sandals. He is described as white-skinned, of medium build, bald, with light brown eyes, standing 1.60 meters tall. Distinctive features include a scar on his right eyebrow and several tattoos: Chinese characters, a psalm on his right arm, and the surname “MAY” on his right forearm.

The case has alarmed the local taxi union and the community, not only because of the region’s security concerns but also because of May Castillo’s public profile. Earlier this year, he was involved in a road-rage incident with motorcyclists in the Jardines neighborhood of Chetumal. Video showed him exiting his taxi with a baseball bat to intimidate the riders, but two men — later identified as workers on the Tren Maya project — disarmed him and beat him severely.

That incident sparked widespread debate about road rage, aggression among drivers, and conflicts with workers brought in for federal projects. The video circulated for weeks, making May Castillo a recognizable figure.

Authorities have not established a direct link between that altercation and his disappearance, and all lines of investigation remain open. Fellow drivers and family members have expressed deep concern on social media, urging a swift investigation.

Anyone with information is asked to call (983) 8350050 extension 1132 or email the prosecutor’s office.
