Cancun, Quintana Roo — The disappearance of a taxi driver in Cancun has sparked concern among his family and colleagues after the vehicle he was driving was found with a murdered man inside in the Colonia Mexico neighborhood.

The case, which occurred on May 12, took a turn when authorities revealed that the victim found inside the vehicle was not the driver, whose whereabouts remain unknown.

What happened to the taxi found in Colonia Mexico?

According to sources close to the investigation, the vehicle with economic number 2517 was found abandoned on a dirt road in Colonia Mexico, in a dark and hard-to-access area. Inside the unit, police discovered a deceased man with gunshot wounds, and the car showed multiple bullet impacts.

Authorities have not yet confirmed the identity of the executed man found inside the taxi.

How did driver Orlando Jiménez Ruiz disappear?

Family members reported that the owner and driver, identified as Orlando Jiménez Ruiz, left his home between 6:00 and 7:00 a.m. heading to the taxi stand at Prado Norte, where he usually worked.

According to their statements, the driver typically returned home around 10:00 p.m., but that day he did not come back and has not contacted his family.

Preliminary versions suggest that alleged criminals may have kidnapped the taxi driver to later use the vehicle to transport the executed victim.

Why the case is concerning

Friends and family described Orlando Jiménez Ruiz as a hardworking, responsible man dedicated to his family, and they fear he may have been the victim of a crime.

The disappearance has remained without clear leads for more than three days. Authorities have not released official information about the driver’s whereabouts or progress in the investigation.

Family members and close associates have called on the public to provide any information that could help locate the missing taxi driver.
