The Solidaridad Municipality has announced that it is unable to adhere to a court-ordered injunction that would allow waste management company Redesol to resume waste collection services in the area. This announcement follows a report from the Legal and Consultative Secretariat of Solidaridad, stating that they do not possess the technical proposal document that Redesol used to win the bid in 2012. This document is crucial as it would allow Redesol to recommence their cleaning operations if they were to return to service. The request for this document is a key aspect of the injunction that Redesol won at the start of 2024.
The dispute originates from a concession grant for waste collection in the tourist area and Puerto Aventuras that was awarded for a 10-year period in 2012. However, the succeeding municipal administration in 2013 failed to uphold the concession contract and removed Redesol in favor of another company.
