Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — The restaurant El Camarón Guasaveño has temporarily closed its doors following a deadly armed attack late Sunday night that left one employee dead and three others injured.

In a statement, the restaurant’s management said their priority is supporting the victims’ families and loved ones. They confirmed they are cooperating fully with authorities to clarify the circumstances of the attack and expressed confidence that the necessary steps will be taken to determine what happened.

Out of respect for those affected and to facilitate the investigation, the restaurant will remain closed until further notice. “Any updates will be communicated exclusively through our official channels,” the statement said.

The attack occurred around 9 p.m. at the intersection of Avenida CTM and Bulevar Playa del Carmen. Witnesses reported that armed individuals arrived at the scene and fired at least 10 shots at the restaurant from outside before fleeing.

One worker died at the scene, and three others were injured and taken to the General Hospital. No arrests have been made so far.

Playa del Carmen Mayor Estefanía Mercado expressed her condolences to the family of the deceased worker. She said that security protocols were activated immediately in coordination with police and the State Prosecutor’s Office to investigate the incident and find those responsible.

Mercado highlighted that her administration has made a historic investment in security to strengthen prevention, response, and investigation capabilities. “In Playa del Carmen, we respond with firmness, coordination, and determination. We will not back down. We will continue to confront those who seek to disturb the peace of our city and will act with the full weight of the law,” she said.
