Cancún, Quintana Roo — Aguakan, the water utility serving Cancún, Playa del Carmen and Puerto Morelos, invested more than 110 million pesos in infrastructure projects during the first half of 2026, the company announced. The works aim to strengthen drinking water and sewer systems as the region’s urban growth continues to accelerate, supporting both residents and the tourism-driven economy.
Cancún: Projects target high-growth areas
Aguakan began work on the Colegios distribution network and collector, located in one of Cancún’s most active residential and educational zones. The project, valued at more than 21 million pesos, will benefit over 7,100 residents. The company also started constructing the Kukulcán Distributor project in the Hotel Zone, a more than 16 million-peso investment to modernize water and sanitary infrastructure in one of Mexico’s most visited tourist destinations.
Playa del Carmen: Upgrading the water network
In Playa del Carmen, Aguakan is renovating the drinking water network in Sector 4, with an investment exceeding 43.6 million pesos. More than 14,000 residents are expected to benefit. Separately, the company began building the Beach Collector, a 2.5 million-peso project designed to gradually eliminate absorption wells along the coast by channeling wastewater to the Federal Zone collector, improving sanitation and protecting coastal ecosystems.
Puerto Morelos: Sewer modernization continues
Aguakan is moving into the second phase of the sanitary sewer modernization project in Puerto Morelos, investing more than 30 million pesos to improve service for over 11,000 residents. The work includes installing more than 2,500 linear meters of piping to optimize wastewater transport to treatment plants, with an emphasis on environmental protection and sustainability.
