Kidnapping Report Triggers Multi-Agency Operation in Cancun

Cancún, Quintana Roo — An intense police operation unfolded Thursday night in the Santa Fe neighborhood after reports of a kidnapping and the theft of a ride-hailing vehicle.

Witnesses told officers that at least seven armed men traveling in two vehicles cut off a white Chevrolet Onix at Avenida 127 and Santiago de Compostela, in Supermanzana 326. The driver, who worked for a ride-hailing platform, was pulled from the car after a struggle.

Investigators said the attackers were actually after the passenger, who tried to escape and take refuge in a nearby home. The gunmen followed him inside, forced him out and put him into one of their vehicles before fleeing. They also drove off in the Chevrolet Onix.

The 911 report drew a rapid response from Cancun Municipal Police, the state Public Security Secretariat, the National Guard, the Mexican Navy and the Mexican Army. Officers set up a perimeter and began searching for the victim and the stolen car.

Authorities used the C5 video surveillance network to track the suspects’ possible escape route through cameras across the city.

State Prosecutor’s Office investigators opened an investigation, and forensic personnel processed the scene for evidence. No official statement had been released as of late Thursday night.
