Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo — The Municipal Institute of Culture and Arts of Playa del Carmen has opened enrollment for a three-year arts training program for minors, with certification backed by Mexico’s National Institute of Fine Arts (INBAL).
Irma Birruete De Ponce, the institute’s deputy director of artistic promotion and education, said the program spans six semesters. During the first semester, students rotate through music, theater, and visual arts. Starting in the second semester, they choose one discipline to study through the sixth semester.
Music and dance students can pick a specialty: guitar or piano for music, and contemporary or Mexican folk dance for dance.
Graduates will receive a certificate endorsed by INBAL, which will help them continue their arts education, Birruete De Ponce said.
The school offers two categories: children ages 8 to 13 and youth ages 14 to 17. Classes are held in morning and afternoon shifts, with students attending six hours per week — two three-hour sessions.
The school is located at Ciudad Juventud in the Bellavista neighborhood. Interested applicants must meet requirements set by the institute.
Classes are scheduled to begin in September.
