Akumal, Quintana Roo — State officials have completed maintenance on a pedestrian bridge in the town of Akumal, aiming to ensure safe passage for thousands of residents and visitors.

The work was carried out by the State Public Works Department (SEOP) under the direction of Governor Mara Lezama. The bridge, originally built by federal authorities during the expansion of Federal Highway 307 between Tulum and Cancún, had shown significant deterioration in its upper structure.

State Public Works Secretary José Rafael Lara Díaz emphasized that the repairs support the free movement of more than 2,000 local inhabitants and numerous tourists.

The maintenance involved dismantling 125 linear meters of deteriorated tunnel-style railing and replacing it with a new iron railing system. This system uses 2-by-2-inch PTR posts and steel mesh fencing, standing 1.5 meters high.

Additionally, workers rehabilitated 166 linear meters of existing railing that remained in good condition. This process included sanding, brushing, cleaning, and applying primer and white anti-corrosive paint.

Lara Díaz noted that the project was conducted in collaboration with the Quintana Roo delegation of the federal Ministry of Infrastructure, Communications and Transportation (SICT).

He added that the state administration addresses community needs gathered through government programs like public hearings, welfare caravans, and the weekly “La Voz del Pueblo” initiative.
