Chetumal, Quintana Roo — The state prosecutor’s office has rescued 1,199 human trafficking victims so far under the current administration, marking a historic milestone in the fight against the crime, officials announced.
State Prosecutor Raciel López Salazar said that among those rescued are 145 children and adolescents aged 5 to 17. Of the total, 937 victims are Mexican nationals and 262 are foreign nationals.
The results earned international recognition at the Fifth International Summit Against Human Trafficking held in Washington, D.C., where the prosecutor’s office received an award from the organizations Caleído and the Unidos Contra la Trata Foundation.
“This is not just a recognition for the prosecutor’s office, it is a shared award for the inter-institutional group. By instruction of the governor, the fight against trafficking remains a permanent priority at the security table,” López Salazar said.
Raids, Arrests and Convictions
Intelligence and field operations have dismantled illicit trafficking networks across the state. The coordinated strategy has resulted in:
- 215 search warrants executed in various municipalities of Quintana Roo.
- 135 suspected traffickers arrested and handed over to judicial authorities.
- 29 convictions obtained, with sentences of up to 30 years in prison.
Authorities credited the joint work of local and federal security forces and the prosecutor’s office for disrupting trafficking networks operating in the state.
