Quintana Roo Lawmaker Calls for Permanent Driver’s License
Othón P. Blanco, Quintana Roo — A local lawmaker is pushing for Quintana Roo to adopt a permanent driver’s license, arguing it would provide direct benefits to residents and serve as a measure of social justice.
Hugo Alday, a deputy from the Labor Party (PT), said the proposal championed by PT legislators in Jalisco should be replicated across all states, following the model already in place in Mexico City, where he said the permanent license has helped thousands of people.
Alday noted that a similar initiative is already pending in the state Congress but has languished without analysis for several months.
The reform would give drivers greater legal certainty and reduce the costs of periodically renewing their licenses, Alday said, calling on fellow lawmakers to build consensus to pass it.
